If you have a mentor, or have ever had a mentor, you understand how important and significant their influence is on your life and career. Having a mentor and creating that unbreakable connection with someone you respect, is one of the most beneficial relationships you may find. If you’ve ever considered becoming a mentor, do it. Everyone has talents, insights, and gifts to share. There are so many ways to give back and so many ways to make a lasting impact in someone’s life.

Help Someone While Learning
By sharing your experiences, expertise, and knowledge with someone seeking that type of advice, you’ll help them learn and grow in ways they never thought they could. You can help them see their own gifts, strengths, and even weaknesses too. By providing constructive, warranted feedback, your mentee could see themselves in a whole new perspective and create a path for themselves that will make their short term and long term goals attainable.

Leadership Development
Mentoring gives a plethora of opportunities to grow and hone in on your leadership skills, as well as pass those on. You may be seen as an asset to your company if you begin mentoring lower-level employees. You might get valuable insight from that employee about certain dynamics that you may not be privy to. You’ll be able to enhance and really discover your leadership styles, and continue to improve upon those based on your mentees feedback and how you can get through to them more effectively. Mentoring provides so many opportunities for employees, as the mentees, to hone in and exhibit their own leadership skills as well.

Increase Productivity
If done appropriately and correctly, mentors can help mentees become much more productive and motivated. This is also beneficial if you work in the same organization as your mentee, but also if word travels, to some important people that you’ve been trying to impress, that your mentorship is really making a difference. Creating an open, transparent environment with your mentee will ultimately help them, and you, increase productivity. You and your mentee can leverage the success of the mentorship due to a supportive learning environment.

Benefit As Much As Your Mentee
People who are mentors are generally seen as those with higher credibility and are seen as higher performers. It’s important to remember that the mentee’s success is your success as a mentor. Thinking selfishly will not get you there, but you will benefit and learn a lot along the way. You’ll gain visibility into other areas of the mentee’s life and experience, and be able to learn from them as well. Mentorships are usually mutually beneficial, rather than exclusive. You’ll get positive visibility from those you look up to and higher ups in your company as you’ll be more connected, will show your leadership skills, and will ultimately add value. A great mentor is a guide to help the mentee navigate through life, business, and beyond.

As a mentor, you can change someone’s world, you can learn, and you can feel like you’ve done something that matters. So what are you waiting for?

Excellent! Being a mentor, one can learn more and able to research deep on a topic because people whom you teach about a topic will ask questions and you will study thoroughly on it by looking forward to the questions that would have been asked. A mentor has the responsibility of a teacher for students.
